Art show on the move to Boston area!

This past week I moved the Its Your Land show from Transcend Tattoo in Branford CT to Visions Tattoo & Body Piercing in Medway MA (show party is June 16th). Once again, we would like to thank all the artists and hosts involved with this show. Art is one of the most meaningful communication methods out there and the body of work encompassed in this exhibit is a powerful example of artists voicing their own reflections about the state of the world. As we were taking down the art it was hard not to reflect a bit about the message conveyed in each piece, and the positive community impact of the project as a whole.

The artists involved are doing their part to open minds by using a united voice. Not only that, the money generated from this artwork is fueling arts education for the next generation of inquisitive thinkers. Our goal is to keep this project going and to blast a few grand into arts education in communities every year to ensure that the next generation is empowered with the tools of self expression and higher thinking necessary to face a world full of mixed messages and flat out lies. It’s no secret that early childhood education is one of the largest returns on investment a community can make. It’s over 14x1 over the course of 30-40 years (about 10% a year steady). We, the curators of the show and the artists involved, are making this contribution to our communities and our country to empower youth activists with an open creative responsible mind, something that is a direct result of exposure to the arts during development.

That’s why events such as this one are so important. We as a nation must engage in a dialogue on the subject of our country’s actions and policies on the international stage. Although the right is trying very hard to change it, we are still a nation governed by the people for the people. It is not sufficient to hide behind “I didn’t vote for him” or “that’s why I don’t vote.” We MUST own our country’s actions and if we disagree, seek to change them. Ultimately art is not about preaching answers, or dictating a philosophy, it is about asking questions, and raising debate. It is only through discussion that we can fully understand our own positions on these critical issues, and the work exhibited in this collection is all about creating these forums for honest and open dialogue. We must also take responsibility for those who will come after us, to ensure we raise a generation with the questioning, inquisitive and challenging minds that exposure to arts education creates.

The next Gallery opening is Friday June 16th at Visions Tattoo and Body Piercing in Medway MA. About 10 pieces have sold so there are still quite a few amazing pieces for sale. Art collectors should get there early! Even if you’re not a collector, please join us to view this exhibit, and talk about the issues and thoughts expressed by the artists with others in the tattoo community.
